Where does financial aid come from?

It has very little to do with scholarships. Most of it is from the federal government, and most of it needs to be paid back.

Federal Loans & Grants

Low-interest federal loans are the most common, but awards like Pell Grants are given, too

College Grants

Grants from colleges are free money that the institutions give to select applicants.

State Government

Some states give out grants based on academic achievement, family background, or ethnic heritage.

Private Grants & Scholarships

Private grants and scholarships are the least common form of financial aid, and the hardest to get.

40% of college financial aid is federal loans!
